Why would anyone buy something called Sub-Zero?

When I dropped Lizzie and Anna off at school this morning, the thermometer in my car registered at 8 BELOW ZERO. With wind chill, the news was reporting that we are -30 today. And it's not expected to go up much all day.

The streets of Appleton are deserted. My garage door won't close because it is frozen. The air is hard to breathe. And we are heating our house nearly 100 degrees above the outside temperature.

This is our fifth winter here and I keep wondering how many years it takes before I stop wondering why we live in a place that should be uninhabitable for humans. I am jealous of the Canada geese who get to migrate.

I was asked the other day (by a telephone marketer) how often I watch the news. When I told her that I watch it nearly every day, she asked how well informed I felt. I thought about it and told her that I know the 10-day forecast by heart, but don't know any news. Last night I DVR-ed the news to get to the weather. When I watched it, I had to fast forward through 10 minutes of Packer news before they got to the "severe weather" report. Then they went right back to the Packers... who don't play until Sunday. Before we even got to the two sentence report on the House repealing the health care bill (a fairly big story, I would say), there was a five-minute (remember, I had this on DVR, so I timed it) photo montage of Packer pictures sent in by viewers. With apologies to proud parents, no matter how cute your baby is, every kid looks the same in a Packers bib and a little helmet. There was also a story on the granddaughter of the first Packers quarterback and the memorabilia she has of his. I rolled my eyes so much that I was afraid they would stick that way.

I suppose that, for Packer fans, this is their way of dealing with the cold. Pile on enough green and gold and top it with a cheese hat, put down a few bratwurst and a few dozen beers and maybe it's possible to forget the frostbite. But the episode of "Modern Family" that I can't wait to watch doesn't have the same effect, although I did laugh for the entire episode this week. What's a take-it-or-leave-it football family to do?

Two words: Comfort Food
Tonight: Macaroni and Cheese
Tomorrow: Mashed potatoes and Gravy. An entire meal of it.

And everything with a hot chocolate chaser.

Brrrrrr! And I think it's cold here when we don't get out of single digits. But at least we have Modern Family to keep us warm...and mac and cheese. :)

Brr. Time to move I think. I watched that Modern Family and laughed through the entire thing as well. What a great episode.

XO Miss you!

That's when I wish I were a bear and could hibernate. Wouldn't that be nice to fatten up right before winter and wake up when it's spring?
