Spring Break, Day Five

Spring break took a decidedly international turn when I took the kids out for a Hmong lunch. We have a large Hmong population here (it's okay if you don't know what Hmong people are; even my spell check doesn't recognize the word). This isn't the time to give a history, so I'll sum it up by saying that they're refugees from the mountains of Laos. Yum.The owners thought we might like these shakes. Here is the reaction when we first saw them. And below is our reaction after tasting them.
And here is why we had such a reaction. Big black tapioca balls in the bottom of the cup. A little like eating slimy gummy bears.
We gave it a good try, but in the end we decided that Hmong food (purple rice, egg rolls, and mystery noodles) may not be the best use of spring break.
