It happens every year around this time. When the weather starts to turn cold and winter looks more inevitable than possible, I start getting crafty. I think it's a similar effect to pre-natal "nesting." For some reason, this year was particularly bad.
For our ward trunk-or-treat, I made bean bags for the bean bag toss game I painted (photo not available). This is a spider with braided yarn legs:

I quilted these candy corn bean bags:

Then I bought 80 pounds of apples to make applesauce. We added 40 more pounds of jonathan apples to the Cortlands. So far we've put up 45 quarts and we'll probably get another dozen at least.

This next one wasn't as involuntary as the others. Lizzie had to make a volcano for a school project. The teacher's instructions were that it had to be big. And it had to be a specific volcano. In Iceland.

Papier mache is fantastic stuff.

And finally, these cupcakes were for Lizzie's gymnastics meet for the concession stand. They were a Martha Stewart recipe with mint frosting and chocolate buttercream on top. They were really delicious and I even put them in fancy papers because I was selling them.

When I dropped them off, the man who took them said that they looked like about fifty cents apiece. I tried to be okay with that and started to walk away. But my pride made me turn back and insist that they were worth at least twice that. He told me that I could come by at the end of the day, then, and pick up all my cupcakes that weren't going to sell. I did indeed come by at the end of the day, but all I took home was my empty tray. I am such a snob.

Okay, but those are really $2 cupcakes if you ask my opinion. What do you want to bet the same person came back, over and over? They look SO beautiful and good. Sure beats anything that comes out of a can...
LOVE the cupcake story. That is so funny that he would throw that out. Makes me glad you turned around! I would have too if I'd make cupcakes that looked that cute and yummy! Your quilted candy corns are darling!
