6:30 - I slept in and skipped my spin class because I was up until 10:30 sewing Lizzie's costume (I know that for most of you 10:30 is not late, but for me it might as well be 2 in the morning). Got Lizzie up and dressed in her crazy clothes; costumes weren't allowed but they could have inside-out clothes and messy hair and mismatched shoes. It was like having two Halloween costumes.
7:30 - Got Lizzie off to school, got Anna up and dressed in her costume and tried unsuccesfully to convince Daisy to put hers on, too.
8:00 - Ran to Target for Smarties for my gymnastics classes. Also found plastic pumpkins for the girls to use trick-or-treating, and a basket for passing out candy, of course. Kelly hates Target because I can never just go in for one thing.
8:30 - Made it to the YMCA and got set up for my classes. Managed to snap a quick picture of the girls before I had to drop them off in their respective rooms. Daisy wouldn't wear her real costume, but was more than happy to wear a dress-up skirt that wouldn't stay up. Oh, well. We take what we can get...
1:00 - Got home as fast as I could, got Daisy down for a quick nap, and started popping popcorn for Lizzie's class party. I also made a few phone calls and started defrosting and collecting my ingredients for dinner.
2:00 - Woke Daisy up and hauled both girls and four huge batches of air-popped popcorn to school. Before you start thinking that I must be a boring mom for bringing plain old popcorn to a class party, you should know a few things. First, I agree. Second, I did it because there is a child in Lizzie's class that is allergic to peanuts, milk, and eggs and another child who can't have gluten. Plain popcorn is sounding better and better now, isn't it. Third, the class wasn't allowed to have a Halloween party, but they had just finished studying ancient South American cultures and popcorn was part of all their diets.
3:00 - Dropped off the carpool girls after a strange conversation with one of them about whether their friend was the devil. Got Lizzie home and started homework and piano practicing.
4:00 - Trick or Treating started. The city designates certain hours and our were from 4-7. Kelly took the girls to our only LDS neighbor, still a drive away, and then they got started. This was my year to stay home and I was so excited to get to sit down, finally. Notice that Daisy is finally wearing her costume. The promise of candy convinced her and she did really well with it.
While everyone was gone, I started dinner for the neighbors. We always trick-or-treat with three or four families and this year I invited them over for post-candy sloppy joes. It was an easy meal, but took some time to prepare and I was glad to have a quiet house for a while.
Notice Lizzie's EHS. This is what took me so long the night before. I had to convert her U cheerleader costume into a High School Musical cheerleader costume. I have no idea what she has in her mouth.
9:30 - We collapse into bed. I was tired but still felt okay.
At midnight, I woke up so dizzy that I couldn't stand up. All day Thursday I couldn't lift my head off my pillow. I don't know if it was exhaution or the iffy Chinese food I'd had for lunch. It lasted not quite 24 hours, but it was ugly.
I just have to say that the best part about Halloween being over is that now I can play my Chirstmas music without being so embarassed.
