After our ENT learned that Lucy's vocabulary has been limited to just a few words and that she has had a few ear infections, he had us come in to see him. Sure enough, she failed the hearing tests and we discovered that her ears were permanently full of fluid.
It was, therefore, a no-brainer to put tubes in her ears ASAP. We did it this past week, and within hours, Lucy was saying new words. In fact, on our way out of the surgery center, she was looking all around clearly listening to the new sounds.
Hallelujah!
We are no strangers to tubes. This was our eighth set between the four girls. And given our results, I am clearly a huge advocate of them. It is the BEST to never worry about whether the child has an ear infection. Plus, the whole procedure takes five minutes, and the only anesthetic is laughing gas. The tubes may hurt a little, but compared to the pain of the constant pressure behind the eardrum, none of my kids have complained about them.
Lucy is a new kid. She is so much happier and more communicative.
And when baby is happy, Mom is happy.

Tubes are one of the most amazing inventions! I thought Jonas was the baby from you-know-where and then after he got his tubes, he was the happiest little guy! Bless the inventor of tubes!!!
Amy, India has tubes and they are a gift. I'm sure it's night and day with Lucy. I am so glad she doesn't have permanent hearing problems, I'm sure you've been really worried. I hope all is well otherwise; we sure miss your cute family. love, cousin Jayne
