Visiting the Big City

Kelly had work in Chicago and we all tagged along for a few days.  It was so much fun to be together and not have any work to do around the house.  All we needed to do was see Chicago.  The first night, however, Daisy decided that she did NOT like her port-a-crib and would not sleep there.  She wanted to sleep in the same bed as her sisters.  At three in the morning, all three girls trooped into our room (oh, we love the hotel suite) and blamed each other for the fact that everyone was awake.  Okay, mostly they blamed Daisy.  So kind, sweet Daddy graciously took Daisy into our bed and the girls happily trooped back to bed.  I think that if he had known how restless Daisy was, he never would have settled on this arrangement.  She sleeps in a spread eagle, we found out, with one hand tapping Kelly and the other hand under me.  Very unaccommodating to the state of slumber.  And at 5 in the morning, she started snoring...LOUD.  Needless to say, none of us slept well and I felt like the rest of the weekend was spent catching up.

We took Daisy to the Disney store and she went right to the Pooh animals and didn't leave.  We had to do a lot of fast talking to get her out of there without a Pooh doll.
This is the Cottonelle display bus at Navy Pier.  And yes, that is the REAL puppy on my lap.  The girls couldn't wait to hold it and the puppy was really quite calm, even wit Daisy.
A photographer took pictures for local newspapers and the company website.
I had no idea that there was so much to do in Chicago that doesn't cost money.  We spent an entire afternoon at the Lincoln Park Zoo after a delicious lunch at John's Place and dessert at Sweet Mandy B's.  Wow!  I had forgotten what good food tasted like.

Other highlights of the trip include the requisite trip to the American Girl Store, my shoe shopping at Nordstrom without any small children, the best sea bass I've ever tasted, The Science and Industry Museum, the Adler Planetarium, Kelly's appearance on the local NBC affiliate (he appeared with a puppy because, as we all know, we are much better looking when holding a baby or a puppy), and food, food, food.  We definitely got our fill and now we have no need or desire to eat out in Appleton for a long time (how can Applebee's ever hope to compare with the Cafe Grand Lux?)

So fun!!! Last time I was in Chicago I was about Lizzie's age and I have some great memories. Your girls are so beautiful and it looks like you're having fun being a Mommy (even with a 2 year old in your bed!) Love you...

What a fun trip, love the pics! Tell Kelly he's cute enough, he doesn't need the puppy!

Next month the twins and I are going on a work retreat with Dave. Reading your post makes me nervous that we are going to have 2two-year olds in bed with us. YIKES!

Hmmm, all that free stuff in Chicago...we will have to go! What a fun trip. Sorry about the sleepies, Josh can't sleep with us either, or it is up all night for all of us. And I love the girls' hair cuts. So easy and so cute on a little girl!
