I am an internet contest junkie. Even though I know that my chances of winning a kitchen makeover or a trip to Hawaii are slimmer than winning the lottery without a ticket, I can't resist filling out those entry forms for every online contest I can find. And, ha-ha! I finally won one!
The website Cool Mom Picks offered a drawing for a free digital scrapbook and I was one of the winners. I didn't want to write about it until I actually got it in the mail just in case it was all a hoax or something. It came today and I am thrilled with the result.
The thing is, I am just not a scrapbooker. I don't have great handwriting or a good eye for visual decorating things. I am (self-analyzed) paralyzed by indecision when it comes to what looks good. This means that the walls in my house are largely bare and unpainted, and, more to the point, that I am years behind with scrapbooks. So I saw this free digital book as a new opportunity. The software does the layouts for you so all that remains is to download your pictures (with simple instructions) and put them in the book. I figured out how to do simple decorations on some pages, but mostly they're plain to match our walls. Best of all, I didn't have to use my handwriting -- I got to type the captions! In one week, I had all of 2007 put into a book and ready to go. And it didn't cost any more than buying a scrapbook, paper, stickers (or stencils or whatever the latest trend is), cutters, and page protectors, not to mention the cost of printing photos. So I'm converted, I think.
And I have renewed faith in internet contests. I just got another email from the bank in Nigeria that has money for me: Bring it on!

Congratulations! I've never won anything either. Also, congratulations on your pregnancy! We are so excited for you and the new addition to your family. This precious little girl couldn't be coming to a better family.
Love your blog!!! I want to see your book! That is fun! Thanks again for coming by last night. The Stephensons are great!
I have been wanting to try one of those books. I love the "idea" of scrapbooking, but just maintaining the basics of a family makes it hard to tackle my photos that I am at least 9 years behind on. If you say it looks great I will try it. If you are going to win anything that was definitely worth it!
