First, Kelly and I celebrated out tenth anniversary this week. I'll spare you all the post about how wonderful he is by summing it up. Less than 24 hours after the tree fell on our yard, he had it chopped up and hauled off, not to mention the lawn mowed where the tree had been. In 10 years, I have done the dishes only a handful of times, usually when he is either out of town or at meetings. Kelly's reaction when the ultrasound tech told us we were having our fourth girl was, "Oh, good." He never fails to remind the girls that he loves me best of all, but that they are a close second. When we got engaged, I told him that I'd stick around as long as it was fun... and I'm still here.
Next, I have discovered that I am really not a dog person. I had a friend lose a dog this week. It was one of those dogs that was the size of a small horse and was still a puppy, so did all the puppy things but on a large scale. When I heard that the garbage truck had run over him, my first thought was of relief for her. It didn't even cross my mind that she would be heartbroken and devastated. I remember after our dog died when I was a teenager, it took about a day before we had eliminated any sign that a dog had ever lived there and we really never looked back. I enjoy dogs (other people's) but don't understand the bond that forms. I feel sorry that I can't be more empathetic about losing a beloved pet.
Finally, last week I did something I've never done: I voted on a reality show. I love So You Think You Can Dance and voted for Will, the best dancer who has ever been on the show (surely those of you who watch it are nodding in agreement now). I didn't vote this week, and he was kicked off for having the lowest number of votes. Rats! My guilty conscience is sure it's because I was too busy to vote this week. Just like I am certain that my not shopping at Wal-Mart is going to bring the giant to its knees, my one vote could have made the difference. I wish that I felt like committing to voting every week now, but now that Will is gone, there's no one left for whom I care to vote. So I'm saving up my votes for November.
By the way, thank you for suggestions for names for the baby. My favorite, because the due date is so close to the election, was Hillary, not because I particularly care for the reference, but because it was a clever suggestion and I got a good laugh out of it.
