One of my mom's favorite books is called "Hazel's Amazing Mother," in which a little hedgehog-like animal gets in a pickle and when she can't handle things anymore, she calls out, "Mother, I need you" and her mother drops everything, flies to Hazel's rescue, and fixes everything. Mom says that you never outgrow the need to sometimes cry, "Mother, I need you." Well, I did just that, and Mom flew out to rescue me.
Kelly was out of town for the first week she was here and I really relied on Mom. She got up early to practice the piano with Lizzie, and she spent a ton of time holding Lucy while I got things done... like showering.
We also did a few projects. We painted the baby's room and sewed pillows for the girls' rooms. These are the cute fabrics that my amazing friend Beth found and that I love more every time I see them. Mom helped me figure out how to sew the shams without a pattern and just made me feel like I am doing a good job.

It's a funny thing how dependence on a parent changes with age but never entirely disappears, and how a compliment from my mom sustains me through really hard days for a long time.
Thanks, Mom, for coming to help and for being willing to do projects and for holding my baby as if she was the most precious thing ever. You are a wonderful Grammy!

There--it happened again! Whenever I read "Mother, I need you" it brings me to tears. Still. For 12 years! That feeling never seems to go away.
It was an absolute joy to be with you all--you're magnificent.
XOXO
What a beautiful post about everyone needing a mother. So articulate and well written!
