So that little bug that I mentioned in the last post?
It's an influenza bug.
The swine kind.
Aaaaack! Sanitize your screen and hold your breath!
That's right. We're a statistic; a dot on a map.
Okay, but here's the thing. I want to know...
WHERE THIS CAME FROM.
I mean, look at poor little Lizzie two days ago. She couldn't move from her bed, her fever was hot enough to melt ice packs, and she was completely miserable. Tell me, who goes out feeling like this? Who did this to us? I want them rounded up and I want to sneeze on them a few times. And then I want Lizzie to cough on them.
For the uninitiated (read: lucky), here is a tutorial on swine flu.
It hits hard and fast. Lizzie started coughing on Saturday morning and at approximately 2:00 that afternoon, her temperature went south. As in from here to Phoenix. And no amount of Tylenol or Motrin brought it down. I called the doctor the next morning for advice on how to lower the fever. She scheduled an appointment instead. Kelly took her in and the doctor wore a mask and the nurse came in wearing a full suit, goggles and all. Like a science fiction movie.
Kelly came home slightly dazed with a diagnosis of influenza A and prescriptions for all the girls for Tamiflu. (What?! There's a medicine for the flu? If only I'd known that in 2005!)
We also went into an immediate voluntary quarantine. I will NOT be the next one to spread this around. Even the healthy girls are in the house, yelling across the street to the neighbors to stay away. Real classy like.

And the nurse called today to let me know that it's the H1N1. It's not the flu that bothers me, it's the stigma attached to it.
I mean, we could be better about washing our hands when we come home from places, but it's not like we're sucking on grocery carts or eating food off the floor at McDonald's. Especially Lizzie.
So here we go. And if you get the swine flu, IT WASN'T FROM ME!
I haven't left the house.
But just in case, bleach your keyboard.

I love your question, "Who goes out when they feel like this?" That is exactly right! It is amazing how those germs get shared so easily when it isn't exactly unobvious that you are VERY sick and should stay home! Poor Lizzie! I hope the Tamiflu keeps everyone else on the up and up! Colorado is hunkering down this fall/winter, ready for H1N1. Apparently it's pretty active here, and with the baby on the way, I am keeping my ears in tune for any kind of cough/sneeze. Feel better all!
I'm so sorry to hear Lizzie's sick. I am so petrified of my kids getting the swine flu. Dave's brother had it a few weeks ago and with the kids starting preschool, I'm sure it's just a matter of time. Hope she's on the mend quickly and that the rest of you stay healthy. Good luck!
oh, you've got to be kidding. i'm just glad to say that i actually know and love someone with H1N1. feel better soon Lizzie!
Yuck! I hope Lizzie feels better soon and you don't go stir crazy! We are on our way to the doctor this morning for Walker. I think it's more of a stomach bug, but the nurse said to come in just to be sure!
That picture of Lizzie breaks my heart. Hang in there - you're a trooper!
I hope Lizzie is feeling better soon and that no one else in your household gets sick!! We are thinking of you!!
DANG IT! So sorry Amy...
You crack me up! I love your "bleach your keyboard" comment.... ha ha ha! Hope life starts treating you and your girls a little better!

Hey, we resent the fever like Phoenix comment. Just because it's still over 100 degrees and it's 10 PM! So sorry you've got the dreaded disease. I think it's because you once lived in Utah. From what I can tell, everyone in that state seems to be totally freaked out about swine flu.
By the way, Stone Creek is me, Cheryl, I forgot to sign out of Josh's bishopric google account before I posted! :)
Amy, I'm glad to see that the swine flu hasn't wiped out your sense of humor! I've heard that the "social stigma" is the worst part of this flu, like you said. I still think Moms should never get sick, especially when you have sick kiddos to take care of. So glad you're doing better!
