Thank you for all your well-wishes. Here is what has happened since the last post:
We learned that the flu really attacks the respiratory system. For a child with asthma anyway, that was not welcome news. For the most part, Lizzie did great. We had one bad night when she had trouble breathing. We probably could have taken her to the hospital, but we tried a few things at home (like taking her out to breathe the cool night air) and got her under control again.
I got it, too, but at only about half-power. My lungs were tight and I had a low fever for a few days. I've had much worse flus.
We've also learned that there are two components to the swine flu: the physical symptoms and the social shunning that follows. It appears that once you have it, you're always contagious, like leprosy. Sunday, we didn't go to church because we were freaking people out (I got the funniest phone call that contained the words, "people were talking").
At first, I determined to send the healthy ones to make a statement that WE WERE ALL RIGHT, but a wise friend told me that she had a rule to never put her children in a situation where she isn't there to defend them when they might need it. I had visions of Daisy not being allowed to play with toys in nursery because she might be a "carrier" and I decided that this was great advice. Plus, it came with an apple pie. And apple pie is always right.
Kelly and I decided that a better precedent to set is that YOU STAY HOME WHEN YOU'RE SICK. However long it takes.
So we are ready for school to start tomorrow and now we start with the knowledge that:
1. We are not contagious, and
2. IMMUNITY! We have immunity, and Lizzie will not be getting swine flu again when every other kid in school does have it. Yesssss!

I am glad no one else got it very badly and that Lizzie is feeling all better now. I think you made a good choice just staying home...you know that if ANYONE got it, even though you were all in the clear, you would totally be blamed and all the "talking" :) would be way worse!
I'm so GLAD that everyone is feeling better and you can get your life back. Great advice by a very wise mom (defending your kids)...I'll put that one on my shelf to use.
At least you know that you can survive the swine flu. My mother-in-law is obsessed with it and thinks that it is going to bring everything to a hault in the winter. My neighbors are practically building an underground shelter in preparation for a "pandemic." Ugh. Living in Utah County... :) I hope Lizzie is feeling better and that you are all on the mends. Sorry for a very hard mom week! Miss you!
Wow - swine flu! I'm glad that Lizzie is doing better and that you didn't get too sick yourself. And, I definitely agree that immunity is a great thing!
Have missed you!
I'm glad you're doing better.
That's the pitts! I'm so sorry you guys had to deal with that. That's a huge perk of surviving it though, like you've paid your dues to get immunity!! Makes me think I should hurry and have my kids get sick! Just kidding. I've heard the cough is the toughest part. We sure had fun hanging out with you guys at the pool this summer!
