Little Miracles

This week, I have paid attention to and noticed little miracles in our family. Nothing life-changing, but definitely a good reminder that we are loved and heard.

Last Friday, we had Lizzie's birthday and invited the entire third grade. It was the last day of school and we were SO excited about it. It was a Field Day theme and we intended to have it at a park.

When we woke up Friday morning, though, it was pouring rain and scheduled to continue raining throughout the day. After a week of praying for good weather, this was not good.

At around noon, Kelly called and said that the forecast had suddenly changed. The rain was supposed to clear up an hour before party time and stay clear until later that night. He couldn't believe his eyes.

Sure enough, just in time for the party, the rain stopped, the sun came out, and it got warm enough to play water games.

The other miracle that night was that the girls beat the boys in the tug-of-war. With Anna as the anchor.
I just couldn't resist throwing this picture in. Anna honestly fell asleep with this eyepatch and probably would have left it on all night if I hadn't come in.
Yesterday I participated in a truly Wisconsin thing: I had a yard sale. There are people here who make their living hosting yard/garage/rummage sales. I don't know how they have anything left in their house by the end of summer.

We didn't have much to sell, but it was time to clean out clothes and put out all the outfits my babies wore. Ouch! I didn't know I would get so sentimental, but as I was hanging tiny dresses on my rolling racks (rented, because there is a demand), I started remembering and felt a lump in my throat. I thought briefly "Too soon! It's too soon!" but the thought of continuing to keep all those clothing bins in the basement brought me back to reality and I happily hung them up.
But I took a picture to remember them all.

Business was slow. I'll be honest, I don't live in the most garage-sale-happy neighborhood. The area just southeast of us has at least one sale on every block every weekend. But Daisy had prayed that morning that we would sell all our stuff. At the time, I mentally rolled my eyes and thought, "Wouldn't that be nice?"

Then, at 9:30, a man stopped by and asked if he could buy both racks of clothes, all our shoes, and all the t-shirts that weren't hanging. It took a few seconds before I could even answer him. He works for a mission and is sending them all to Peru. So not only did I sell all my stuff (!), it is going to a worthy cause. Win-Win-Win (for you old The Office fans).

Kelly and I have agreed to let Daisy start saying more family prayers.

And, just to top off our great week, we had a pair of baby deer come over to swing last night. We watched them try every apparatus, but as soon as they discovered that swings aren't edible, they meandered back into the ravine.
I am feeling a bit guilty even posting about such trivial things this week, though. My friend Julie just found out that her son has a nasty tumor that is requiring some aggressive treatment. I have been thinking and praying for her and squeezing my kids just a little tighter.

I love posts like this! Now I feel like I know what you've been up to:-) I love that adorable baby deer and can relate to the heartbreak of getting rid of baby clothes...even if I just pack them all up and send them to my sisters. I secretly rejoice when I can see my nieces and nephews wearing my kids' clothes, years later. Hooray for cleaning out and dressing Peruvian children. Win-Win-Win, indeed:-) Anna in the eyepatch is hilarious and I'm glad the weather cooperated for Lizzie's fun birthday party!
