Trunk or Treat

These were taken at our ward Trunk-or-Treat. Kelly was in New York, so for the second year in a row I had to take them myself (last year he was recovering from knee surgery). It was fine; the older two pretty much take care of themselves and Daisy is getting older and more independent...sometimes. Lizzie and Anna got themselves dressed in their costumes and even helped each other (a much appreciated but rarely occuring event). Daisy, on the other hand, refused to put on the Little Red Riding Hood cape that I brought for her. I have to say that because I made the cape, I am a little more sensitive when my kids don't want to wear it.

So this is what Daisy ended up looking like all night: cute, but not quite festive enough. She spent most of the night with her feet glued to one spot, looking around in horror and amazement. Periodically she looked up at me with a look that seemed to say, "Look at all these freaky people. Why isn't anyone else thinking this is weird?" Anyway, after about an hour of games inside, everyone went outside for the car-to-car candy gathering. Daisy was MAD that I was giving away candy and if she wasn't so scared of the dressed-up children, she would have tried to retrieve the candy from them. During a lull in the action, I took her to the car next to ours and she got a little piece of candy. She kept looking into her little bucket at it, and then she pulled me to the next car. She only went to 3 or 4 cars, but a minute later she started running in little circles around the parking lot. Around and around, squealing with delight. Since then, she has started running up to me all day and yelling, "Treat!" It would be cute if...well, no, it wouldn't be.

This is our new favorite toy: the Fisher-Price First Thanksgiving play set. It comes with two pilgrims, both of whom must be girls, Lizzie and Anna decided, because of their long hair, and two Indians. One of them has a papoose on her back, and all three girls love that character the most. It also comes with a table full of plastic food, two benches, a horse and wagon with a huge pumpkin in it, and two panels whose purpose I cannot discover. I just love decorations that are supposed to double as toys! The hope is that now they won't play with the decorations that look like fun toys but aren't.

I can't blame Daisy. Halloween is sometimes really freaky. At our ward trunk-or-treat a very creative Mom did a family theme, Aladdin. The dad was what's-his-name, the main character, the baby boy was the monkey, the little girl was Jasmine and the mom had painted her entire body blue to be the Genie. Even writing this I am giving that look, you know, trying not to smile and not to say something I shouldn't. I'm staring at the screen as if you are giving the same look back to me...are you doing it too???
