Eight is Great

We are playing some serious catch-up this week. Lizzie has been eight for almost a month now, and she is really good at it. I have always loved teaching piano to girls her age and wondered if I would enjoy my own kids at the same age. The answer is, YES! Lizzie is eager to please and to do the right thing all the time. And she is getting old enough to have real conversations.

For her birthday, she chose to take two friends out to breakfast in their pajamas. It was a great time. We went to the Golden Corral buffet and I decided that buffets are perfect for eight year-old girls. I told them that they probably shouldn't tell their parents what they ate for breakfast because reasonable parents don't let their children eat donuts, cupcake pops, jello, and ice cream at 9 a.m. In our defense, the Golden Corral offers everything BUT fresh fruit in their extensive buffet. Chicken fried steak and three kinds of sausage, yes, but don't even mention the word "melon."
Yes, that is ice cream with gummy bears and Oreos served with chocolate milk. The girls thought I was so cool!

Lizzie also had a little party with her Brownie troop. They had a mother-daughter tea party. Everyone dressed up and ate little cucumber sandwiches with their pinkies up.
At the end of the day, Lizzie concluded that it really is "Great to be Eight."
