A line in her obituary

Last week we ran into an old friend's parents in Salt Lake. Amy mentioned that she had been selected as a member of the local newspaper's editorial board (see article below). Upon hearing this, he mentioned "Well that's something for your obituary!"

I guess we are in different stages of life, as we had never thought of this accomplishment as a defining moment that should be captured well beyond the grave.

With that said, the girls and I are very excited for Amy. The girls think their mom is the most popular mom in town because she got her picture AND name in the paper. I am excited for her, because she is able get involved in community efforts and talk politics with those in the area. We are also excited to see how she can break through all the Green Bay Packer clutter and incorporate a Dave Barry style column into our small conservative community paper.

Maybe by the time she is finished with her stint as an editorial board member, she will have written her obituary in full (even though she is not going anywhere for a long, long time.)

Three people have been chosen to serve as community members of The Post-Crescent's editorial board for the next three months.

A native of Utah, Stephenson has lived in Appleton for almost three years. She received a bachelor's of music degree in piano from the University of Utah, as well as a teaching certificate in choral music. Currently, she is home with her three young daughters, and plans on teaching, at least part time, when they are older.

Stephenson enjoys running and has run a marathon. She also enjoys reading, singing, tennis, hiking, cooking, blogging and teaching gymnastics at the YMCA.

"I am so excited to be on The P-C editorial board, representing the amazing people in this area," she said. "It's a big job to help shape the opinions of the newspaper, especially in this election year, and I'm honored to have been selected."
