I have to begin this post by saying that the cold that has been threatening to hit for a week hit last Friday and I've been dragging all weekend. But something in me still feels, despite numerous failed attempts, that if I go for a run, I can run the sickness right out of me. I know that it never works, but I keep thinking that this might be different. Saturday I ran farther than I should have, but planned on resting for the rest of the day. I took Lizzie to her soccer game and one of the coaches was gone and the other had lost her child somewhere in the YMCA. So I offered to get the kids started. I know absolutely nothing about soccer, as my former indoor team can attest (I think we lost one game 19-0 when we played together), so I covered up that fact by having the kids do running drills and kicking drills. So much for resting. Fortunately, I don't think they'll ever ask me to coach again. The rest of the day was a total wash, including the necessary errands for Kelly's birthday party yesterday.
I had the menu all planned out and it required minimal effort on my part. But when I went to the bakery Saturday afternoon to pick up a cake, it was closed. Then, on my way to church yesterday morning, I suddenly realized that I'd forgotten the thaw the rolls. So when we got home from church, I had to make a cake and make homemade bread. Oh, and we were out of flour and powdered sugar. Still sick, I managed, but only with a lot of help from the birthday boy and two neighbors' ingredients. I made his favorite kind of cake, chocolate mint, and it actually turned out okay, though I am not looking forward to making many cakes in the future. From now on, a little more planning will occur.
